From sagittal distance to area

چکیده
In studies of the articulation in speech data on the pharynx are scarce. Still, the pharynx is an important part of the vocal tract. The present paper reports on an attempt to use computer tomography for investigating the pharynx. Tomograms were taken at four levels in the pharynx of a male and a female subject sustaining the vowels /u, i, 0, oe/. From the tomograms the lateral width and the cross-sectional area are measured and their relations to the sagittal distance from the back pharynx wall to the midline of the tongue are examined and compared with previously published data. The results suggest important interindividual differences.

Mid-sagittal cut to area function transformations: Direct measurements of mid-sagittal distance and area with MRI
This paper presents a comparative study of transformations used to compute the area of cross-sections of the vocal tract from the mid-sagittal measurements of the vocal tract. MRI techniques have been used to obtain both mid-sagittal distances and cross-sections of the vocal tract for French oral vowels uttered by two subjects. The measured crosssectional areas can thus be compared to the cross...
متن کاملMR of the cerebral operculum: topographic identification and measurement of interopercular distances in healthy infants and children.
PURPOSE To evaluate the role of axial, coronal, and sagittal MR in identification of surface landmarks of the cerebral operculum and to determine the reference values of interopercular distances of each hemisphere in healthy infants and children on MR images. METHODS Two hundred fourteen cerebral opercula of 35 healthy infants and 72 healthy children were retrospectively evaluated from 107 ro...
متن کاملMorphometrical Evaluation of Corpus Callosum Using Mid-Sagittal Brain MRI Images in Patients With Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis Referred to Besat Hospital in Hamadan from April 2011 To April 2021; A Retrospective Study
Introduction: Corpus callosum (CC) as an intracranial organ is located in midline of cerebrum communicating both right and left hemispheres. CC undergoes morphological changes in multiple sclerosis (MS). Since the morphometrical changes of organs are directly associated with geographical regions, thus the aim of this study was to investigate the morphological alteration of CC in patients with r...

The purpose of this study was to investigate, by cephalometric means, longitudinal alterations in uvulo-glossopharyngeal morphology in adult males and females, at three different ages with 10-year intervals, and to compare the changes between the two genders. The material consisted of three series of cephalograms of 26 males and 24 females, with approximately a 10-year interval between each ser...
متن کاملAnatomic variations of sphenoid sinus from Cone Beam Computed Tomography images in the Iranian population
Aims: Sphenoid sinus is one of the most inaccessible paranasal sinus, and is closely correlated to many vascular and neural structures. Anatomic variation of the sphenoid sinus can complicate surgery in this area. The aim of the present investigation was to define the sphenoid sinus variations and the relevant structures using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: This cross-sectiona...
